Typical Summer Morning
By Kay Embi
I awake and it is 6:53. I enter the bathroom. I finish up some paper work that was in dire need of completion. I leave the bathroom. I lay on my bed, willing myself to get up.
I awake and it is 7:15. Oh well, its not like I had anything to do
I awake and it is 7:27. I briefly ponder why I cannot stay asleep.
I bolt up at 7:35, realizing the source of my dilemma. The alarm clock is blaring and it refuses to shut up. I persuade it with my fist. I swear, having hurt my hand on the dresser which the alarm rests on. Growling, I gently press the snooze button.
Irritably I open my eyes at 7:42. I had forgotten snooze only silences the alarm for a few minutes.
Wishing I were just dreaming, I awake at 7:56. I had also forgotten that my clock has two alarms. I regret having bought the shatter resistant kind. Now is a good time to start the day. I decide to stretch, enjoying the soft pillows and warm blanket.
I awake and it is 10:03. The smell of hash browns beckons me and the growl of my stomach encourages me. The rage of mother forces me.
